Dr. Renee A. Exelbert
Dr. Renee Exelbert is a licensed New York State psychologist. Dr. Exelbert received her BS from Cornell University, and earned her masters and doctorate in Psychology from New York University. She completed her formalized clinical training at Bellevue Hospital Center, where she specialized in the Psychiatric Emergency Room, Pain Management Clinic, and Survivor of Torture Clinic. Her past work experience includes a five-year tenure as the Staff Psychologist at the Cancer Center for Kids, Winthrop University-Hospital, in Long Island New York, where she worked with children and adolescents diagnosed with cancer. Dr. Exelbert maintains a private practice in both Manhasset, Long Island and in Nyack, New York. Dr. Exelbert is also an Adjunct Professor at New York University. Dr. Exelbert maintains a general private practice with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families, with a large focus on chronic illness, loss and bereavement; behavioral disorders; self-esteem; anxiety and depression; parent-coaching; adolescent girls and young women.
After leaving the pediatric cancer center, Dr. Exelbert was faced with her own cancer diagnosis. Feeling betrayed by her body, Dr. Exelbert sought to regain a sense of control through exercise and diet. The experience of exercise was so transformative, that Dr. Exelbert began studying to become a certified personal fitness trainer. Dr. Exelbert became so involved with fitness, that she competed in two female figure competitions for body builders, winning first place in her debut competition. Dr. Exelbert is now a Certified Personal Fitness Trainer, and incorporates psychotherapy and exercise to help individuals empower themselves and cope more effectively with both physical and emotional struggles.
